That would be me! Well, firstly I’m fine (it was just a tooth, of course I am, haha). I had tweeted that I was having a major tooth ache from what I saw was my wisdom tooth breaking through the gums (and possibly an abscess). Turns out it was a full on tooth infection. Yummy! I decided at that time to take a mini-break to get it looked after and relax (that and my face was just radiating so I didn’t want to do much, haha). Anyway, I’ve fallen so behind on my blogos (not a word)!
So, what usually happens, as with most occasions when there’s a large gap in time or say a holiday, I tend to get a little uninspired and quite frankly lazy, haha. The going was good, but I’ve got to get back to work! What originally was my attempt at clearing some space on my desk to work, turned into a full on little project of mine in desk organization. Woohoo! I seriously love this kind of stuff. To me there’s nothing better then a 1) White room, 2) A well stocked space (whether it be kitchen, pantry, office, backpack, etc.), and 3) Some good organization. Over the weekend, I took a few of those things into consideration when cleaning up my desk space. Here it is:
Well, there you have it. My desk was an insane mess (given it obviously wasn’t as spread out like that, I just wanted to show you what I was working with from the start). To be honest, I rarely sit down at my desk. Only when I was seriously working or studying. Everyone works differently and I’ve reflected on how I have worked/studied in the past (where I was, how I was seated, how long I was working productively for, etc), and I’ve found that the majority of my work/studying was done at the uni library (which I love going to, but not for work-work, if you know what I mean). I love the library, but I just find I can’t get any sort of substantial studying done. I can’t concentrate, something is always distracting me, there’s always a group of people talking above a whisper (sounds nit-picky, but that isn’t what I come to the library for)… there’s just something always bugging me, haha. Maybe I’m the problem, hahah! Even with the noise level, like if it is TOO quite, it bugs me because I don’t want to be that one loud person, you know what I mean? I just much prefer to be in my own space and be full accountable to myself. What I mean by that is, I set my own standards for the study/work space that I’ve created. Noise level, distractions, snacks, supplies, comfort level, etc. is all under my control, so if it doesn’t work out or it isn’t effective or productive for me, the “blame” falls on me and me alone.
All of that being said, this is what I came up with! Like I said before, I love a good organized space and although it may look like A LOT of things on my desk, everything has it’s place. I also quite literally have everything I could possibly need. I have my most used items closest to my dominant writing hand (my right), so at the very top right you’ll see my sticky notes, my favourite pencils (animal print mechanical pencils) and pens (all from Dollarama (it’s a dollar store franchise in Canada; very popular)), my digital recorder for lectures, a sturdy ruler, hand sanitizer (a MUST because I’m a bit of a phobe, haha), tape and erasers. Bottom right: a blank notepad for ongoing random notes (very helpful in any situation, work or study) and a plain yellow post-it pad. Next at the top in the middle you’ll see the things of second importance to me like a wide variety of markers, extra pens, highlighters, and wooden pencils. Next to that is my blog planner, a blank notebook, calculator, 3-hole punch, and stapler. Next to those is a little craft corner with my glue gun, glue sticks, paint brushes, pencil crayons, and cute stuffed toys (for the very little bit of fun and cuteness I allow myself while studying and working). Finally, at the very end is kind of a random space. I bought those two serving dishes while thrifting and I loved the colour combination. They now house cotton pads for my nails, my digital camera, and a travel dominoes set that I’m planning on using for scrapbooking projects.
I didn’t intend on describing everything I have on my desk, haha. My bulletin board isn’t anything special. I bought some cork tiles at the dollar store and stuck them up using 3M adhesive tabs that will come off cleanly whenever I need to. I used some thumb tacks as hooks for jewellery at the very top (that was added after I took those pictures) and I also stuck up my bus passes from my Quebec trip and the confetti that I saved from my acceptance letter from my university. I love that I’m saving it, it’s an important reminder to me.
Anyway, this is SUPER long and I apologize, but once I started I couldn’t stop myself! How do you organize yourself and your desk? Do you have any tips? I love learning from new friends so be sure to leave your lovely comments below and have a wonderful night!

You got confetti with your admissions letter?! That's so cool! The cork tiles are super cute, I have serious desk envy. I don't currently have a desk to work on in our apartment and my boyfriend has taken over the entire dining table as his home office so I have to sit on the floor at the coffee table. Not the most productive work space!
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah the instructions read: 1. read offer of admission, 2. Open package about, and 3. Throw confetti and do your happy dance...you're in!. Such a cute touch. Check thrift shops often, I got an awesome little desk for $10 once, solid wood. I should do a post on that, I don't have the before pics though.
Deleteyay for a clean desk! i'm so bad at keeping my work space neat--right now there are jars of water, paints, brushes, various papers, and things in hobby lobby bags (i found some great deals today, btw) scattered about. i need to do a desk clean-up asap! yours looks so organized!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had hobby lobby in Canada, but I suppose Michaels is the closest comparison. I LOVE looking at the scrapbook papers, and I just started getting interested in making stamps, so that is something I'd like to try too. I'm not so great with keeping my desk clean too, but it is much easier with everything pushed against the wall and having the clear space in the middle because I can see the things that are out of place and quickly put it back.
DeleteNice pictures:)
